Thames Audio provided full production management for the recent David Cassidy – Birthday Celebration Concert at London’s Hammersmith Apollo.
The main FOH sound system consisted of 24 L’Acoustics KARA line source elements with 16 L’Acoustics SB118’s handling the lower range. The L’Acoustics vibe continued on stage with L’Acoustics 115XT HiQ’s being the wedge of choice for monitor engineer, Simon Lutkin.
Yamaha M7cl’s were used both at FOH and on monitors. As FOH engineer, James Tebb explains “The M7 has become a well loved board simply because its layout is so straight forward and everything is close to hand. A few people do have a bit of a grumble about the quality of the A/D conversion which is why we’re using an Optocore system. As soon as a mic is plugged into the stage box the signal is converted to the digital domain, and it stays that way right through to the amps where we input into the LA8’s using AES. It basically leaves the M7 to be just a control surface, and the increase in detail by using the optocore pre amps means that I’m doing far less channel EQ and the dynamics all react with much more accuracy”.
